I recently started following Chris Westfall on Twitter (@westfallonline) and was intrigued by his title as “National Elevator Pitch Champion”. So, since he was also in Dallas I just sent him a message and said, “Hey, I’d love to buy you a cup of coffee and pick your brain.”
I mean, who wouldn’t want to have coffee with the National Elevator Pitch Champion?
Within minutes of my note, Chris messaged me back and we set a time to sit down and visit. I was really looking forward to hearing his story—and after viewing his website, I had plenty of questions.
We spent over an hour together this past Monday at a coffee shop just trading stories and finding ways we could assist each other. I’m so glad I reached out and met this dynamic individual. It was one of the most powerful, productive, inspiring hours I’ve spent in a long time.
I tell you all this to ask this, are you meeting new people?
Are you reaching out and taking the time to learn about others; like-minded, professionals who share your common interests?
Remember you can learn something from everyone.
Chris shared his story of how becoming the National Elevator Pitch Champion launched his speaking career into the stratosphere (he’d just gotten back from California and Florida) and even spawned a book I’m in the middle of reading.
As most of you know, I love to meet people who are making a difference and Chris is definitely a Difference Maker!
Who are you meeting? Who is in your area or city you could sit down with and for a just a cup of coffee, get invaluable information? Who can you share YOUR information with and help?
Twitter, Facenbook and all of social media is great. But, let it lead you somewhere. Let it lead you to a real relationship—one that can pay dividends for both parties.
Look for opportunities to connect with people. They are literally everywhere!
Sometimes, right there on your Twitter feed!
