I want you to think about the last time you saw a beautiful painting. After admiring the artists’ work, what did you do? If you are like most people, you looked to see who the artist was. Why? Because you saw something you liked and wanted to see who did it, right?
Artists SIGN their work. When finished with their creation, they proudly put their name on it.
Have you ever noticed that when a new house is being built or a new building is going up, the builder and architect or designer have huge signs out front letting everyone know who is doing the work. Why? Because they’re proud to have their work on display for everyone to see—they want to share it.
So, would you sign your work? Even if you don’t literally sign something, each day we all “put our name” on our work. Whether you realize it or not, our work is on display every single day.
The question is: Is it something you’re proud of? Did you do the very best we could for that customer? Did they enjoy the experience of doing business with you and your company?
I realize most customers don’t look at what we all do as artwork, but like any true artist, we should take the same pride in what we produce. We should want our customers to admire what we’ve done. And it’s up to each of us to put our own little stamp on it before it reaches them.
Any time a customer comes in contact with your company—whether in person or over the phone—someone is going to leave them with an impression. Is it one you want your name on? Would you proudly sign your own name to it?
Think about that the next time you start to make an impression!
From the President of your company to every single associate, everyone has an impact on your customers. Everyone. Period. There are no insignificant jobs in business. So, whether you ever actually see the customer or speak to them on the phone, take pride in your work. Be proud to sign your name!
