We hear a lot of talk about finding a customer or prospect’s “hot button”? That one thing that gets them excited and can help you establish rapport or ultimately make a sale. But, have you ever stopped to think about what your hot button is?
What gets you excited? What motivates you?
When you have a “down” day, what is it that puts a smile on your face or makes you go right back out and talk to another prospect? Is it pride? Your desire for fame, recognition or money? Maybe it’s simply your need to provide for your family?
I would suggest it is probably much deeper than that. For most truly successful salespeople (and business owners’) there is that deep, burning desire to succeed. That fire within that only you can describe—trust me, I know I’m right there with you.
A lot of people don’t understand and want to pigeonhole it into “being a perfectionist”. But, again I don’t think that’s the case. I’m not sure exactly what it is—but it’s something. It is a desire to be the best you can be, to not settle for mediocrity—not because one needs to be noticed, but because you will notice it yourself! I expect much more out of me than anyone else does.
The reason I bring this up today is I think it’s important that you recognize that fire is there and keep it stoked. Find out what makes that fire burn even hotter.
And when you do find out, rely on that when you’ve had that down day or when you’ve lost out on a sale you should’ve made. Pick yourself up, look in the mirror and know you are destined for greatness.
Then smile and push the button that says: HOT!
Sharing success stories is always a GREAT way to keep yourself motivated. Hearing about how someone else put together a huge deal or won a large account gets those juices flowing and will make you want to get out there yourself and get in on the action. Take some time and share your stories with others and ask them to share theirs with you. You’ll enjoy it!
