Hal David, the lyricist behind the 1965 hit, “What The World Needs Now Is Love” passed away last week at the age of 91. For those of us who’ve heard the song (it was released the year I was born), it was fitting of the turbulent times in the country with civil rights and foreign wars dominating the headlines.
Reading of Mr. Davis’ death made me think: What does the world need now? What are we really in desperate need of?
In my opinion, it’s leaders. The world need leaders; leaders in business, leaders in civic organizations, leaders in our communities, leaders in our schools, leaders in our churches.
Webster defines Leader as, “Someone who leads; to guide on a way especially by going in advance.”
That’s what we need: leaders; leaders to go on ahead of everyone else and let everyone know what can be accomplished if we all work together. Leaders who set examples and aren’t afraid to show it.
Leaders who are willing to go against the mainstream or popular notion of what can and cannot be accomplished—those are real leaders.
Are you ready to be a leader? You can start right where you are today. Commit to being a leader in your home, your job, your community and go from there.
What the world needs now is leaders. And, you can be one!
The great part about being a leader is you can literally begin any time anywhere, because you simply lead by example. Decide today you’re going to become a leader in your profession and let nothing hold you back.
Question: Who are leaders that you would like to emulate? Find someone who has set the bar high—and go raise it.
