One of the most important tasks for a professional salesperson is to stay motivated—to keep that fire burning and keep reaching and stretching. It’s tough. I’ll be the first to admit it, it’s not easy. But, it’s one of the things that separates the also-rans from the superstars.
Here are three tips to help for staying motivated:
-Read. Find good motivational material that you enjoy—whether it is reading about other successful people or reading about far way destinations you want to visit one day. Find something that motivates you that enjoy reading about and fill your mind regularly.
-Avoid negativity. In any sales organization there are those that will spend all their time complaining about how bad business is, how bad the prospects are and any number of other excuses they can make up. Stay away from them. You shouldn’t have time or the inclination to wallow in their self pity with them.
-Recognize when the batteries need recharging. Everyone needs this. The key is to recognize it, pay attention to it and then do it! Take a day off if you must. Escape for an afternoon and clear your mind and relax. Everybody goes through it.
The great Zig Ziglar once said, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing—that’s why we recommend it daily.”
And it is a daily process. It’s easy to get “down” and look for the negative side of things—that’s why success comes to so few. The true superstars—those who achieve that ULTRA level of success know there are going to be times when they’re down. They just don’t stay there!

You are the person that others in your company look to FOR motivation—you have to keep them pumped up. One of the great benefits of writing this blog is that it keeps me focused on positive, productive ways to help others.
You can do the same!
