I used to not be such a tech-geek. But, somewhere along the line (between cassettes and iPods), I really got to where I enjoyed finding great productivity tools. Like most today, I have a smartphone and an iPad. As I’ve said before though, it’s a slippery slope. One can find themselves being the servant instead of the master. Be careful to let technology work for YOU and not you work for it.
Here are five apps that I LOVE:
YouMail (iPhone app): This one is cool, fun AND productive. Just download it and install your contacts from your own phone (it does it for you). Then when you have a call go to voicemail from someone in your contact list, they hear the following message, “Hello, (their name), Butch can’t take your call right now. Please leave a message and he’ll get back to you as soon as possible.” I’ve had more comments on this one than anything in the past year. And, interestingly when I call some of those people back they’ve downloaded the app, too. There are other greetings you can customize and even one that plays the old “The number you’ve reached is no longer in service…” that you can assign to a phone number of someone you want to stop calling you. (I don’t have an ex, so I haven’t used that part)
Evernote: (iPhone and iPad app): LOVE this. FIVE stars from me. This is a great app that you can open from your iPad or phone and take notes or save articles to read offline. The great part is they sync with each other. So a note you start on your iPad is available on your iPhone and vice-versa. I use this one A LOT!
Docusign Ink (iPhone and iPad app): I only use this on my iPad so I can’t speak for how well it works on the iPhone. But, I really, really like this one. It allows one to take documents directly from email and put a virtual signature on them. Great for those that travel and don’t want to print every little thing. Honestly, took me some time to get used to NOT printing and signing, but once you start using it, you’ll love it.
Expect Success (iPhone and iPad app): An excellent tool to get and stay motivated. Just a couple of times a day—when you have down time, open this app and find great motivational material and reference. From songs to quotes to tips on time management, there’s something for everyone. And it’s updated DAILY. If you open this as much as Facebook, you will be a tremendous success!
Spotify (iPhone and iPad app): Has nothing to do with business, but as a music lover I absolutely am hooked on Spotify. It is great to have some soothing music running in the background as you work or write or some “pump up” tunes playing as you get ready to tackle your day! (monthly fee)
