Butch, I know you read a lot. What is your favorite book on sales or the one you would recommend most?
Arlen K. Tulsa, OK
GREAT question! I’m not sure I have a single favorite—in fact, I have many favorites. Some old, some new. Some are specifically about sales, some on marketing while others have a motivational feel to them. But, here are some that I think should be a part of everyone’s sales library (in no particular order)
Sales Bible by Jeffrey Gitomer: I’ve read this one so many times it’s dog-eared and highlighted on almost every page. I keep it close by and refer to it often.
See You At The Top by Zig Ziglar: A must read. If you could only afford one of these books, I’d be hard pressed to recommend a better one.
How To Sell Anything To Anybody by Joe Girard: A personal favorite by the World’s Greatest Car Salesman. I love how Joe created an entire team of people to help take care of customer’s as his own personal business grew. Want to learn a few things about marketing yourself? Read this.
Getting Everything You Can Out of All You’ve Got by Jay Abraham: Currently re-reading it for about the 10th time. LOVE this book—I always get something new out of each reading.
How I Raised Myself From Failure To Success In Selling By Frank Bettger: An oldie, but a goodie! Written back in the 40’s or 50’s, this is how a TRUE professional built a career. An inspiration today even though some of the text is a bit dated.
Go Givers Sell More by Bob Burg: The sequel to The Go Giver. Bob is a master motivator and story teller. This is one of those books that you’ll want to give to others as a gift.
Cold Calling Techniques That Really Work by Steve Schiffman: Steve Schiffman is, in my opinion, the BEST at converting sales training to a book. It’s not always easy to teach with just the written word, but Steve does it time and time again. This is one of several of his books that are in my bookcase. And yes, his techniques REALLY work!
Hug Your Customers by Jack Mitchell: Excellent read. Jack Mitchell teaches you how to TAKE CARE of customers and clients. His methods are proven and his business shows it. You will really enjoy this one.
The Ten X Rule by Grant Cardone: Want to reach new heights? Get this book TODAY! It’s on my iPad as we speak. Grant has a no-nonsense way of getting you to set goals TEN TIMES higher than you normally might have. Generally recognized as one of the greatest trainers in the world in automotive sales, Grant’s book is a MUST for any salesperson. But, be warned: you should be prepared to put in the effort to achieve the results!
How To Master The Art Of Selling by Tom Hopkins: Another timeless classic and one that I’ve read many, many times. If I like a book, I’ll read it a couple of times. If I LOVE a book, I’ll read it over and over—I’m on my second or third copy of this one having worn out the others.
Well, there you have it. My library list. You can find each of these in your local bookstore, library or on Amazon.com. I’m not making a penny off any of the links (I’m not an affiliate). But, if YOU want to be great—pick up a few of these and fill your down time with them.
Question: Which of your favorites did I leave out? Leave me some ideas in the comments below.
